Labor Day Wikipedia Labor Day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the first Monday in September in any given year (i.e. a single day from September 1 through September 7) to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States. It is the Monday of the long weekend known as Labor Day Weekend. Now that we

This adventure started when the most recent water bill landed. Not that the extra 600 gallons (2271 Litres) of usage cost that much more but the fact that we have been here for over a year and our water usage is pretty much the same most months and probably has not varied more than 20 or so gallons adjusted for seasons. As we are well into the summer and we are running the lawn sprinklers twice a day for five minutes

About a year ago we moved into a new to us house. For the better part of a year prior we were apartment dwellers with a lot of stuff in storage. Just prior to this was a 2,200 mile trip to move to the Pacific Northwest. By then my lawn mower was almost 10 years old, all electric and had been through three sets of SLA (sealed lead acid) batteries and a conversion to LiOn batteries that I did a couple of years before. The

It would appear that one of the hardest things to do is replace a screen door. Not the actual installation of said screen door but actually getting one. And one that works. So the adventure started just over a week ago at 8:00 AM when I found a screen door that I wanted for our garage. This was to replace the one the previous owners had installed, a velcro/magnetic thing that was old, tired and torn. There was no

The slow death of a browser Alas, poor Firefox! I knew it, Internet: a browser of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy: it hath borne me on it's back a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! my gorge rims at it. Here hung those tabs that I have viewed I know not how oft. Where be your gibes now? your gambols? your songs? your flashes of merriment, that were wont to set the table on a roar? Not

Kind of... This is post 23 of 52 on week 28. In theory this should be post 28 but it is not. This is not to say I have been lazy, I actually have seven posts in different stages of research that are not yet ready and am in the process of changing four of our five computers from Fedora to OpenSuse. I have one done (this desktop), well mostly done except for things I am trying out like the K* things for email/calendar/etc

Well... maybe more of a mouse. Actually a trackball. A Logitech MX Ergo to be specific. Details can be found here. Logitech MX ERGO Advanced Wireless Trackball with Tilt Plate And what do you use to catch a rat mouse? Well... that depends on if you are running Xorg or Wayland and if you switch between both. For Xorg I am using xinput to configure my mouse and on Wayland I am using ratbagd. As I sometimes bounce between

I think I finally have a flavor of Linux and much moar This post is to wrap up several threads left hanging in other posts and my latest adventures in Linux-landia. TLDR: I am now in the lounge1 with the other lizards and have almost everything I need to kick Windows to the curb. In post 13, I was complaining about not being able to program my mouse buttons, solved mostly now. In post 14 I had complained about the

So a while back I had an idea. Yea, I know, dangerous. Music and songs typically tell a story in lyrics. What if I took the songs and reversed it to make a story out of a song? While the story could be just a longer version of the lyrics, this is not my goal. Music can evoke many different emotions and even instrumental works can lay the groundwork for a story. While I am working on a few other things I thought I would

Almost five years ago my father passed, I wrote this as a way to deal with his loss. It seems like a good time to post this. My dad was a teacher, not just in history and economics but in my life as well. He taught me the normal things like how to throw, catch and hit a baseball and how to ride a bike. He also let me learn about things like force, velocity and gravity at the same time, like what happens when you suddenly
